At the beginning of February we unveiled the international WEMBO calendar.
At this time a couple of months ago, actually, the International situation was completely different and none of us would’ve thought that the world would have faced such a drastic change.
This global pandemic lead to forced restrictions and closures that fiercely affected the organisation of international events. The main example is the need of putting off even the greatest sport event: the Olympics
In this moment, where everyone of us is thinking about the most responsible choices in order to protect everybody’s health, WEMBO’s organisers sat down and questioned what assurance needed to be given to world-wide 24H Mountainbike Athletes.
The 24H of Finale staff, together with the other WEMBO (World Endurance Mountain Bike Organization) founders Russel Baker (Australia) and Frazer Coupland (No Fuss Event – Scotland), after a long discussion on the matter, agreed on two main points, shared by WEMBO official channels this morning.
Amongst those, mainly the need of delaying the European Championship to 2021, with the consequent need of re-designing the calendar we announced two months ago.
Therefore, the 2021 European Championship will not take place in Finale Ligure as previously announced but in Czech Republic (supposed to take place there in 2020).
Wishing for the international situation to slow down and get better soon, we hope to communicate the new WEMBO calendar as soon as possible.
In regards to the 24H of Finale 2021 the dates are still the 21st 22nd and 23rd of May 2021

WEMBO Announcement : COVID-19
• Deferral of 2020 WEMBO Solo 24Hr MTB Continental Championships
• Decision Date for 2020 WEMBO World Solo 24 Hr MTB Championships
2020 WEMBO Solo 24 Hr Mountain Bike Continental Championships
Due to the COVID-19 situation and the resulting travel and event restrictions in place around the world, the 2020 WEMBO Continental Championships for Europe and the Americas are deferred by one year and will become the 2021 continental championships. The new dates are:
- WEMBO European Continental Championships Jihlava, Czech Republic 26/27 June 2021
- WEMBO Americas Continental Championships Bend, Oregon, USA 10/11 July 2021
All riders who have already entered these continental championships for 2020 will have their entries automatically
transferred to the respective 2021 continental championships. If you need to seek a refund or other event arrangements,
you should contact the event hosts directly.
The Oregon 24 Hour may still go ahead in 2020, either in July or September, depending on USA Policy on events and
travel, but it will not be a WEMBO Continental Championships due to travel restrictions on riders from outside the USA.
2020 WEMBO World Solo 24 Hr Mountain Bike Championships
There are no current restrictions within Australia in place for November 2020 which would prevent the 2020 WEMBO
World Solo 24 Hour Championships taking place as planned however we have all seen how the measures necessary to
combat COVID-19 can change quickly. Accordingly, a decision will be made about the 2020 WEMBO World Championships in July and announced by the end of July 2020. If the 2020 world championships cannot take place due to Australia’s COVID-19 policies, the most likely outcome is that they will be deferred to the same weekend in 2021 and
remain at Armidale, NSW, Australia.
WEMBO wishes all our riders and the extended WEMBO Family all the best in the current health situation. We will not be publishing any advice on riding in the COVID-19 environment because that is different all over the world due to the
policies adopted by different countries, and we do not support any modifying of the national policies anywhere.
So, for now, stay safe and stay smart. Follow your Doctors’ advice; follow you own countries’ national policies to deal
with COVID-19 and do not try to take a short-cut around them.
We ride in isolation now, so that we can all ride in the future, together, on the trails we love.
Russ, Riccardo and Frazer
