How does a 24 hour race work?

vai all versione in Italiano

A ’24hours’ means that participants ride on a circuit, competing to clock up the most laps in the time. The

best times count as well as the number of laps.

What’s the difference between TEAM and SOLO?

vai all versione in Italiano

TEAMS ride in relays, swapping between the various riders. A TEAM can be composed of 2, 4, 8 or 12

riders. SOLO riders compete on their own, without teammates to help share the work.

Is the 24H of Finale just for trained athletes?

vai all versione in Italiano

The 24H of Finale is an event suitable for every type of cyclist. What unites all the participants is their

passion for mountain biking and the desire to have a good time. Depending on the type of team with which

you decide to enter, you will be free to decide how you get the most enjoyment out of it. TEAMS range from

those who are very competitive and have a strict race strategy, those who are more interested in having fun

than in posting fast times.

Race or amateur cycle tourism event?

vai all versione in Italiano

The 24H of Finale is open to competitive athletes and unlicenced amateur cyclists. That’s why the

competition is sub-divided into two events. The first is a true race, open to all licenced riders as well as those

who can provide a medical certificate proving they are fit to undertake strenuous activity.

The second, NON competitive event, is open to all, including amateur cyclists. The race itself is the 24H of

Finale, has official standing and follows specific regulations. The NON competitive ride is a cycle tourism

event that, although it takes place on the same course and follows the same format as the 24H of Finale, has

a different start. As it is not a competitive event, no classifications are given.

Do TEAM members have to divide their time on the course equally between them?

vai all versione in Italiano

No. Each TEAM decides on its own race strategy, which means that each rider can do an unspecified

number of laps before handing over to the next team member.

Do SOLOs ride uninterrupted for 24 hours?

vai all versione in Italiano

Some riders are able to, yes. They are really heroic. However, a SOLO does not have to stay in the saddle

for the whole event. Every biker can use the time as they think best. Riders can stop whenever they want, for

example if they are losing count of the laps completed.

I’m not a biker. If I come, will I enjoy myself too?

vai all versione in Italiano

The 24H of Finale is a festival in which the bike plays the starring role, but it is also a rich source of

activities which will make time fly for families and friends. There is an exhibition area with plenty of bike-

related stuff, and also stands offering food, beer and fun. There are six musical events to get you into the

rhythm of the festival.

How did you come up with this idea?

vai all versione in Italiano

Several years ago, in 1999 to be precise, we wanted a way of showcasing the Finale area to bikers around

the world. There were and still are lots of cycle races which are often so full of competitive stress that the

riders don’t have a chance to even find out if the place they are in is horrible or wonderful. They do the race,

have a shower and go straight home.

This seemed pretty limiting to us, so we invented the first 24 hours on an MTB ever held in Italy, an event in

which bikers could participate along with loads of friends. They could be on their bikes for several hours,

and party, dance and sing for the rest of the day and night. This meant they would have time to enjoy the

place, absorb the atmosphere and think about returning soon.

I keep seeing the words ‘FAIR PLAY’ on your website. But what does that mean?

vai all versione in Italiano

‘Play honestly’ is a philosophy for life, not just a sporting maxim. We are absolutely convinced that a minute

supposedly lost by helping someone else is actually a minute gained. Sharing a happy moment with other

mountain bike lovers is much more valuable than a record against the clock.
